RRIND Tour Kick-Off and Record Release

Rrind is a new project featuring Dewayne Slightweight (Mayor Daley) singing and playing guitar, Vanessa Harris ( ex-Coughs) on drums and Brett Koontz (Cool Memories) on bass. They just recorded a new album and are headed out to tour the USA. Tomorrow night they kick it off at the Empty Bottle with (in Dewayne's words):

"John Bellows (everyone's favorite troubadour), Magic is Kuntmaster (alien witch sounds), and Psychic Steel (solo stuff from drummer of Ga'an, will be insa'an)."

It's going to be epic, I mean AMAZON --High Places officially killed the word epic.

We Are the World

Wednesday, January 20, 2010

This Saturday, January 23 from 6-9 pm Roots & Culture Contemporary Art Center will be hosting an opening reception for the exhibition We Are the World curated by Liliana Lewicka.

In 1985 Lionel Richie and Michael Jackson co-wrote “We Are the World” and recorded the now-famous tune alongside nearly 50 of the biggest names in music to raise money and awareness for the famine crisis in Africa.

This exhibition is both a look at the significance of this tender moment in pop culture history and a preamble; bringing together some of the most notable young artists born during the 1980's by inviting them to re-imagine We Are the World as it could have been.

Featuring:
Ninna Berger, Caitlin Denny, John Henderson, Parker Ito, Zachary Kaplan, Anne Guro Larsmon, Matt Momchilov, Justin Olerud, Job Piston, Melissa Sachs, Bailey Salisbury, and Justin Swinburne.

Each picture is taken directly off the wall after selling, fragmenting the narrative and increasing the complexity of the series.

The beginning of the progression can be seen here.
